let us trade characters to other accounts

Character sharing, trading and selling is happening anyways. Having an official way of handing over characters to others would stop people from handing over entire accounts.

Apologies if this idea turns out to be pants on head retarded. I feel like there are ways this could be abused, but I can't think of one off the top of my head.

Something like this probably creates a logistical nightmare like for the devs. I think the thread talking about using tokens for verified accounts and stuff is more likely than anything like this.

Accounts are personal, and we do not recognize any transfers of them. The only possible result here is getting the account banned.

Making an ingame system for this is effectively promoting it.
Think that shouldn't be done in general.


It already takes over two years to rewrite a client and making them waste time on disputes of poor kids selling characters is a waste of time.

While the analogy to drugs, suicide, and for the fun of it, toss in prostitution, is probably on the extreme side... let's face it--It's going to be done. There are three choices.

* The obvious first one: ignore it. I know a few accounts have been banned over this, but not many, and that I'm aware, for making posts about it on the forums here. doesn't do much to discourage the practice, though.
* Two: actively search it out and prosecute the perpetrators. Either ban the accounts participating, or delete characters. Pretty extreme for a small game and could easily kill off the active player base. (One would need some hard numbers on active players and other various information to make such a judgement call.)
* Three: provide a sanctioned means of players transferring characters. It's not popular, but a surprising number of people participate when provided a means of transaction that is secure.

Make character transfer a paid transaction. If you want to shift a character from one account to another, no questions are asked about who the accounts belong to, but no subscriptions, hats or hearthfire contents are transferred and there is a flat fee of like 20 bucks.
