fishing rod quality should affect fish quality

Then maybe all fish wouldn't be so shit q. Fishing nets would still be useful for people who want easy bulk fish without bothering with quality.

You can influence cooked fish by putting them on a grid iron. Although I would still appreciate fishing rods boosting fish q too.

Can you use cooked fish in recipes like fishballs or wellplaiced pie, though? There's lots of fish recipes that are made crappier by the lack of high q fish, I think.

And right now, there's almost no incentive to use a rod to fish instead of nets. It would be nice if fisherman was a worthwhile thing to be.

This change + a Stardew Valley or Mabinogi fishing system would keep me logged on for hours. One day it would be amazing to get a full fishing rework with variable sizes/individual fish graphics ingame etc, but it's likely a long way off based on the curent dev speed and focus

This is absolutely a giant time sink that people will play with and make sets for and overall just enjoy the hell out of. A good fishing system is worth every bit of dev time invested in it.

fishing system must be ambiguous and impossible to enjoy

ask potjeh and sevenless, who iirc are/were both masters of all the dzorbian fishing minigames ever made.

Nah man, Salem fishing was lame. I think H&H's current fishing is great, I loved scouting spots back when I was playing. But yeah, low quality making fish useless is a big problem. Fishing rod improving quality might be too easy, though. I think it'd be better if you could craft fish feed and dump it into water to improve fish quality in an area. Adding feed raises quality, pulling out fish lowers it.

That sounds good in theory, but I have a feeling it could be abused somehow. People who could mass produce fish food might dump massive amounts of it in their private ponds and get q99999999999999999 fish to throw in mulch bins.

An alternative use of rod quality could be to lower the likelihood of a fish running off with your bait or of your line breaking. It's annoying that there's no incentive to make a top tier fishing pole.

The most exciting thing about fishing is drudging up random items that fell in the pool. More reasons to actively fish would be great.
