Change all crafting to use squareroot

Postby shubla » Wed Apr 15, 2020 11:20 am

I think its dumb that currently if you have q200 metal and q10 wood you get (200+10)/2 = q105 things, with squareroot sqrt(200*10))=q44
This would encourage trading and make stuff like farming trees more meaningful and overall balance crafting "professions". Currently if you have HQ metal it's pretty OP because you can easily increase all other qualities by just your metal!

This would not encourage trading. This would just make everything slow down so you think you would be able to keep up. Do not change the game to help people feel special!

But think about it.
There is a reason why formula for bonuses from quality is not linear.
Why shouldn't this apply to crafting as well?

Why should it? You want to the quality to be lower and harder to raise. That's the only reason. Also, Trees are one of the most important things to raise quality of everything. Wood is needed to smelt metal. Its already capping metal.

Because currently some industries like metal, you can get q100-200 metal easily. People already have q200 metal.
This will nerf other industries, like trees, as they don't matter much when you can just raise your metal ql.
Current system leads to unnecessary ql inflation and imbalance.

You need high q wood to get high q metal. You need to research how the game works before asking to change it my pal.

Did you read the OP or understand what was even being suggested?

Please stop derailing.

You are mad about high q metal being traded. But the real high quality stuff is not even being sold. You want quality to be even further stunted due to the fact that q200 metal exist. I understand what the post is about. This isn't derailing. I'm explaining you want the game changed for the majority because you feel like getting q200 metal this early is crazy even though multiple people have gotten that far and even further. Metal is not the only thing that's at quality 200 either. Making this change would only make the game more tedious by making the effort put into playing worth even less.

It's not about metal, metal is just an example of what it causes.
The whole point is to make all ingredients matter more when crafting.

They do matter. For things that require metal and wood they take a 50% weight of both. Both qualities mater. Why should the lower quality matter more? For example, do you think the head of an axe is more important than the handle? Both are equally important so they should weigh the same amount.

Not even to mention that the differences in these qualities is already effected by a square root (the bonuses given from items).
