Corrupt hearthlands

Postby JohnBolognese » Fri Feb 12, 2021 6:13 pm

A new dangerous overworld biome that covers most of the area around the edges of the map.
Nothing is able to grow in this new desolated area except a few new plants that are exclusive to the region, the fauna would mainly consist of reskinned warped versions of already existing creatures who'd be much more aggressive, deadlier and all of them would have the bear raging mechanic, but also slightly higher base quality than their non corrupted counterparts.
This area would be completely uninhabitable, hearthlings may not construct anything in this region.

I think something like this already existed in Salem. Didn't like it! Doesn't fit HnH lore I think.

Honestly based most of my post off the Salem Darkness/Twilight mechanic since I really enjoyed it.

"a fictional world loosely inspired by Slavic and Germanic myth and legend."

There's certainly myth and legend for it. I'm not sure it was a good thing in Salem, either... at least the way it was done. Maybe a different means of implementation would be better. Jorb has talked about dragons in the past, and this could tie to it.

Remind me of Terraria, if it's a slow spread then might be cool. Maybe it grow's exponentially hand has to be something hearthlings have to face together. The downside is player who want the world to end would attack people trying to slow it down.

Thicket?

It was actually prime real estate to settle in because once you did plow it away, there were zero downsides and Thickets didn't have any cliffs (which you could neither remove or cross in Legacy so they were nuisance when building villages.)

I've touched OP suggestion here where I suggested central landmass/megacontinent for fresh spawns and outer continents, some of which could be corrupted/darkness.

The darkness mechanics was actually one of my favorite things about Salem, to be honest. It doesn't work as is in Haven, of course, since there's a day/night-cycle here, but clearly the idea of having civilized/uncivilized areas predates Salem since that mechanic existed in Legacy, and I've considered various ways to bring something like it back. Haven't managed to think of anything good enough yet, but it's something I like to revisit every once and again, and I hope to be able to figure something out eventually.

I hope the idea of an area like the darkness thats more fit for haven's playstyle and aesthetic isn't off the table then!
I'd love to see the civilized/uncivilized areas of the map mechanic make a comeback in hafen! It would be much more interesting having to venture far from the civilized world where most of the players are concentrated to find the highest quality animals.
