Season treeplanging pause is too harsh for wood

Postby Fostik » Thu May 06, 2021 1:04 pm

As title says, winter and spring seasons are coming. They will create a phase for 15-20 days during which it will be impossible to raise tree quality, since you unable to receive seeds earlier than first 1-6 days of summer.
I might say I'm ok with it for other game periods, I'll just do other stuff on my base, but at world start it is very important to raise tree quality.
Don't even have ideas how can it be resolved, except generating seeds on trees starting from spring.

Any discuss are welcome

Could at least allow some of the real life evergreen species have seeds

Winter shouldn't affect the growth of coniferous trees.

Trees that mature during winter/spring generate seeds at a bonus quality for the first seeds of spring?

Keeps the realism winter pause, turns the no growth into "yay I'll get higher Q in spring"

Just another example of how badly seasons are implemented.

I just wish there was something to look forward to when winter is coming up. Feels like it just make the game more stale for a while with no upsides.

Kicksleds, snow, less chores.

Why not? Water freezes in winter and theres not much sunlight, how would any tree be able to grow?

I think its good that there is variation and small breaks on what you can and can not do.

Conifers are also known as evergreens, because they are suited for cold, harsh climates and retain their leaves/needles year-round

Yes I know that they are green around the year, but that doesn't mean that they would GROW during the winter, they merely get to grow sooner when the spring comes as they don't have to grow new leaves. As I said, freezing of water prevents growing of all plants. So far I have not seen spruce with central heating system.

Actually there are genus of evergreen trees that grow even in the winter. Since a vast majority of the earth doesn't stay below freezing at all hours/periods of the winter season I feel like your "water freezing" logic here falls through. While yes, most probably grow slowly or not at all, it still happens for a large portion of the globe during the winter. So unless Haven takes place at such high latitudes that it's constantly below freezing (and as such would also have wonky hours of sunlight), then I'd say it be fine to add into the game some evergreen trees that keep growing in the winter and produce seeds.
