Vote for the end of the world mechanism

Postby Slowwalker » Mon Dec 13, 2021 12:57 pm

We really need an in-game "vote for the end of the world" mechanism. I suggest.
Each character has a number of "votes" based on how many days he lives, how many characteristics he has and how much experience.
Each login to the game gives him "votes" for a week for the preservation of the world.
And add sacrificial places around the world (or make it possible to build such a place, or magic). If a character brings himself to the sacrifice, then all his "votes" go to the destruction of the world forever.
And make the world wither counter displayed in the game, or on the site, or by using magic - the votes of life against the votes of death. It does not commit to anything, it just shows the attitude of the players to the current world. Technically, in the future, mechanics can be tied to it with the chance of a troll appearing on the surface, bears in berserk mode, the speed of decaying buildings, or something else.

This can be used by players to plan whether it is worth starting active construction in this world now (if it dries up life) or wait until the restart, in order to avoid a big disappointment when what you just built will be quickly destroyed along with the world.
And developers will be able to rely on real sacrifices of really good characters, and not on screamers in the chat or on the forum. Any such screamers can be sent to see the counter.

Maybe someday if the game is developed enough that world resets don't need to follow major development steps, but at the moment they are too intertwined in my mind for it to be wise to leave them up to anything besides when the devs feel that they have enough changes ready to present that it requires wiping the slate clean again.

I second slow, recently-ish world resets have been paired with development changes that are impossible to do without a world reset. Just gotta be patient.

This parameter does not oblige developers to do the destruction of the world right now. It is rather a "health monitor"

I don't know why changes always require world resets, makes not much sense to me. if the population of the game should grow maybe don't delete all their shit every year xd "starting new" doesn't fix anything.

world resets are also nothing the devs want to do in the long run I assume so I don't like that idea really.

For a glaring example, you couldn't really hamfist Thingwalls into an existing world, they're quite tied to Map Generation to go on correct spots at certain distance from each other.

w11->w12 did not get anything as radical though, but there were multiple improvements under the hood.

Also jorb doesn't like nerfing stat gains mid world, because he's worried people will feel like they can't catch up. Which is why the broken op food stuff hasn't been nerfed.

Jorbtar likes to say they don't want to mess with character development mid world a lot, but I don't think it actually influences their decision making at all.

  • added truffles 2 years into world 10 that made gaining stats x2 as easy
  • nerfed kebabs into the ground mid world
  • let spiced industry happen then didn't even delete the food while removing the ability to make more
  • buffed/nerfed archery 100 times either invalidating all archery characters or all non-archery characters
  • added cheese rackQ midworld after most ppl already had their stats from cheese
  • buffed/nerfs swords/spears multiple times that changed the meta away from UA or MC ruining most characters
  • nerfed the shit out of pepper as a sprinkle and therefore ancient root spamming which was the most effective tryhard method to gain stats
  • fucked with whale spawn rates this world making it harder to get stats after most people already stopped grinding

There literally hasn't been a world I've played where they didn't either arbitrarily make my character worthless or buff the shit out of it. This world they made it worthless \o/

Resets are done when devs have made enough changes or require some bigger change e.g. thingwalls.

If they wanted to maximize playercount via resets etc. they would do something already.
