Make buckets take 2x2 on a belt slot

Postby Massa » Tue Sep 16, 2025 10:16 pm

People want buckets, buckets must be carried in hand, people end up carrying 500 flasks or whatever.

But instead, I've solved the question of balance. Make the bucket, and bucket alone, occupy 2x2 slots in a belt. ez.

inb4 "removed ability to put waterflasks and waterskins in belts because I don't play my own game and I make stupid changes when people literally asked for something else" type shit

No need to get rude here. QA is a full-time job. I believe (naively) testing balance for HnH would require at least as many efforts as both design and coding.

We can help by leaving meaningful reports and suggestions.
Saying "this change is stupid" isn't constructive. Saying why you don't like it or what you think would be better instead is at least informative.

Where exactly was my feedback not informative? Which part of "removing waterflasks and waterskins from belts would be worse" was not clear? lmao

you could be less of a sensitive sniveller and read between the lines at least a little bit in an effort to see what was being communicated. No need to run scared from what's being said because the opinion wasn't formatted like a college paper.

wow we've derailed quickly, my idea was pretty solid. it actually provides a nice little chokepoint for belts too, to be able to have a bucket, or bucket+other items.

In defense of Nightdawg, the implication that waterskins would stop going in to the belts isn't completely unfounded. If you want to maximize the water carried, buckets carry 2.5 liters a slot while flasks are 3 liters a slot. After first few days of the fresh world and Dried Hide becomes abundant, there's not much reason to opt for buckets instead of Waterskins.

The main benefit would be civil actions inside walled areas, where you could now carry buckets filled with batter, Milk, Pepper, Vinegar, etc. for a massive cooking QoL boost.

How dumb am I for considering seeds going in to glass jugs?

Not as the only solution, mind you, buckets are substantially different. But implementation-wise it might be an easier change with fewer balance implications to add seeds as a possible content for jugs.

What's an issue in this case? What are the pros of using buckets instead of other containers? I mean, what are we trying to fix here exactly?

Welp, carrying full buckets on your belts doesn't sound very convincing. I don't often see such a thing in real life. Are you sure we are not getting a little bit too greedy here?

Previously on "Recent Discussions about Buckets" someone pointed out that you can't use Scythe and bucket for seeds at the same time. I assumed this was related, but perhaps that's in error.
