Faster decay

The map is just plain ugly right now. You can't go one minimap without stumbling across a rotting mega village.

Hearthfires that have been offline for 35+ weeks.
Ugly mud stalagmites from decaying dirt stockpiles.
Abandoned structures that refuse to break and massive paved areas that take a billion years to decay naturally.
Unharvested farmland that will never disappear.

After a claim goes inactive, everything on it should decay within a week or two. By the third week there should be no trace of player activity left.
Mines should collapse. Terraformed land and dirt stalagmites should erode.
Everything should be reclaimed by nature.

Take a whirlpool to another continent.

I was dicking around not so long ago and I went into a natural cavern on -1, and to my surprise there was a star shard. Untouched.

The walls, perhaps, but everything else I disagree. If everything decayed instantly after a week the bases would be impossible to loot as everything inside would break before the walls.

Also, the problem isn't so much the rate of decay but rather that decay ONLY happens while the area is loaded. This means areas with players active decay really rapidly while areas players never visit never decay which is how my base miraculously survived after I quit for 2 months then logged back in to check on things and why a base I abandoned and even broke the totem of still stands.

I don't want to isolate myself from other players and play on a private island. My point is, those 'last seen 40 weeks ago' places serve no purpose and ruin the vibe this game is going for. I'd rather have untouched nature than Rick&Morty pixel art the size of four minimaps that won't decay before we get the next World.

Two weeks would be enough. You can tell when someone quit long before the claim lost all presence. It takes no time to Wrecking Ball in and take what's worth saving.

Two lines of code to change it (probably). Decay hits should hit harder when they happen.

I Disagree. When I was taking over a friends abandoned village, I had to repair on a daily basis to stop the walls from breaking due to how long the walls were. if I didn't repair daily, a wall broke because it was close to my base thus leading to rapid decay ticks. If anything needs to change it's that decay doesn't happened when structures are unloaded

it kinda happens this way, once the structures are loaded in field of view, they suffer a random decay dmg from what i've notice this last 4-5 worlds, also it seems to have a cooldown for the decay.

It would be a great improvement if locks could be extracted from palisade gates, knars, and shneks that have remained unclaimed for over a day in real life. The reusability of boats and villages would drastically increase. Furthermore, abandoned villages would stay empty for shorter periods since breaking the idol would become much simpler.

Finding and 'restoring' decayed claims is one of my favorite things to do in Hearth :| If there were less of them the game would .. kinda suck. Surely you wouldn't play singleplayer?

They’re absolutely everywhere at this point. It wouldn’t hurt if there were fewer of them.

Even if they took 2–3 weeks to decay you’d still find plenty of places to have fun with. Nobody is going to try to revive a mega village that’s been decaying for over 30 weeks this late into the wipe. They’re just making the land look uglier.

Seeing other players' mark on the world makes the map interesting. yes it can be ugly, but someone lived there once!
