Probably so. An experienced player wouldn't have any trouble dismounting and running into the cave. But that's the first thing that came to mind. Perhaps they'll hesitate a bit or jump off the wrong way, and the horse will block the way—that's a chance, however small.
Could you just give some examples of when the change the author suggests is necessary?
I often end up on horseback at home and end up sideways after a couple of tries, but honestly, in this situation, there's nothing stopping you from dismounting and leaving, leading the horse on a rope. "You're a fool for riding a horse around the house."
