FaithfulToadd wrote:Actually, I smell an opportunity for a new type of animal -- the 'backyard variety' critter. It's a crying shame we don't have feeders for birds, squirrels, butterflies, deer, young hogs, hummingbirds, etc. etc.
I also want ponds for koi fish. Ducks were mentioned in a previous stream. Get to work, devs!![]()

Any animals will stay away from the area where they are eaten. If you open the gate, animals will wander into the area.
Your proposed solution will simply become a way to hunt without leaving the base.

DeadlyPencil wrote:hunt what? bunnies? you honestly think someone is going to create a bot to hunt wild bunnies, when they can just farm bunnies in hutches by the thousands.
They can just pick animals that would not be problematic with the assumption someone will create a bot.
I do not plan on hunting bunnies and squirrels, this is not day 1 of a new world, i simply want to see them running around and village banners not creating "dead zones" in the game.
FaithfulToadd wrote: This could be mitigated with careful measures in the design of 'backyard' animal variants. They could simply be made unattractive to hunt, for example, with a drop in quality. Or make them not spawn in villages that kill them repeatedly.
FaithfulToadd wrote:Alternatively, make hunting using feeders a feature. Maybe swill quality could give a small bump in quality to a specific 'backyard' species (including deer and hogs, but excluding bears/lynx/mammoth), instead? Maybe villages could choose a perk for this?
FaithfulToadd wrote:Hog hunting is a big tradition here in the South. Feral hogs are an invasive species here, so yes, a feeder for them would be designed for hunting. I just think it'd be neat if we got to see a feeder for them in the game.
See also, this hog trap. A primitive version of this would be really cool to see.
serVar161 wrote:how will they get inside?
FaithfulToadd wrote:They don't need to be inside the walls. The context for this is that villages claim vast tracts of land beyond their walls. I've definitely had the experience of wandering through the wilderness and seeing villages claims going miles in each direction.
