Nerf inventory, buff/add more bags

Postby Kinglazy » Fri Apr 24, 2026 9:54 pm

Having the inventory of the player stack items was a huge QoL addition but reduced other non back packs storage to LARPing, except for the Traveller's Sack which is just a direct upgrade to the main inventory. Suggesting:

1- Not allowing main inventory to stack items

But buff back packs, bindles and Traveller's Sack slightly to compensate (extra column maybe)

2- Add new "equipment containers"

Creel and Poacher's Pouch properly stack items now. Add to them:
Forage Container (hand baskets?) for herbs, mushrooms, leafs, insects, nuts, fruits etc..
Prospector Container for dirt and clay

3- Add more Backpack Extensions

Log pack extension that allows the main inventory to stack logs
Miner pack extension to allow the main inventory to stack ore and stones
Farmer pack extension to allow the main inventory to stack produce, seeds, string, cloth, silk..etc
Change Primitive Backpack Extension to give a row or a column of inventory

This will also incentivize using produce sacks and wheelbarrow more

I don't blame you. No one remembers them.

So it wasn't a Mandela effect  That's one off the list but it only demonstrates my point, no one uses these because stacking in the main inventory is more than sufficient. With a bindle in hand completely out classing it.

There's no need to ban stacking items in your main inventory. Otherwise, you'll be running around with 16 items at the start of the game again.
And what's the difference between your main backpack and other bags? It's the same, and even bigger.
But upgrading or reworking the Wanderer's Bindle so it's more usable - yes.

Insects are stored in a poacher's bag.

The logic is clear. You can store 100 tons of meat in two poacher's bags or the same amount of fish in a fisherman's bag, leaving your hands free. But for berries, you need to use a wicker basket, which takes up a hand slot.
Perhaps it's worth recycling the baskets or adding baskets for fruits, berries, and farming.

I wouldn't add a special bag for dirt and clay, otherwise the opposite will happen - people will use the wheelbarrow less.

Adding extensions to the shoulder slot, like the Primitive Backpack Extension, for a specific function sounds good.

i hope with all my heart that devs wont pick up on any more of those external bags/inventories bullshit. literally the only single item i use from all of those are the new sacks, wheelbarrows on steroids. all i could ever hope for is increasing my main inventory, so the shoulder extension is really nice.
every single bag added increases complexity of gameplay, not in a good way. more clicks, more worn items management, more mistakes.
and now you talk about nerfing inventory? for what ungodly reason?

-1000 from me.

Player inventory capacity has just gotten absurd over time and needs a notch back in the other direction, infinite QoL not always being a good thing, and this would be a good way to do that while also buffing the historically barely-used inventory expanders like wicker pickers back to the point that they're significant again

The last update fixed container items such poaching poach and creels to allow stacking. The idea was to follow up on that and bring further specialties. So players would rely on container items for stacking. You would atill be able to stack in any container (cupboards, chests, etc) which could give a lot of the early game small storages more use.

But no one would have an incentive to use the container items over using say 2 traveler sacks if you can just stack everything on the main inventory. Which is a shame since the devs put the effort to making them

The option to unlock (specialized) inventory stacking will be there via extensions to keep backpacks relevant.

That just leaves the question is if theming and complexity is worth sacrificing what the player base consider a huge QoL. I personally think it would enhance the game experience over all at the cost of a slightly more annoying early world.
