Blood trails would be neat, have already been suggested. Visible wounding would be nice too.
Overall I'm not experiencing that much difficulty with hunting.
If you have to do this to hunt they might as well bring back boat hunting.
If you have to do what? Have blood trails and visible signs of an injured animal?
If anything it gives them cause to have the animals run FARTHER. Instead of just having them flee until deaggro, have them flee until their stamina drops. Injured animals would have a longer despawn rate than uninjured animals, and it also leads to all sorts of interesting options.
1 - Burrowing animals flee towards a den that doesn't spawn onto the map until they're fleeing. Interesting curios can be found here.
2 - Tracking animals across distances means they can give animals more meaningful HP, and the game of the hunt now becomes one of the chase (Which it always should be if you fail your first shot)
3 - Bears and Boars generally fight until the death... If you've ever seen one of these animals enraged, they don't quite as a rule.
4 - Speaking of Boars - Can we have a boar spear introduced maybe?
I've always felt that there should never be a point where fighting a boar or bear becomes a trivial thing. These are the grandmasters of combat in nature, and killing them shouldn't be something that's in reach of just ANY hunter.
Boars will literally run themselves up a spear to get at you when they're angry enough, and a single swipe from a bear can fell a horse with broken bones in the right circumstances.
So frankly, it'd be nice to see animal hunting get a Fix. But in a way that makes it more interesting, more challenging, and more focused on the 'thrill of the hunt' and less on the 'boom headshot' aspect.
