Everglowing Ember should start fire

Actually, discussing this with my camp-mates, a very good point was made.

If:

An Everglowing Ember must be crafted into a torch to be able to light things.

AND:
The resulting torch is no longer a curiosity nor capable of lighting firebrands.

Then this would be the best result.

It consumes the curiosity, creates a new item, and limits its application as an infinite ash generator.

A minor thing perhaps.

its so zen!
Once Master Baizhang Huaihai asked Lingyu to see if there were any burning coals left in the fireplace. Lingyu, without checking it, said that the fire was completely out. The master then picked up the tongs, and, searching through the ashes, pulled out a glowing ember and showed it to his disciple, saying, “What's this?” Lingyu then experienced a deep realization of the meaning of practice, and bowed to the master.
The next day, Lingyu accompanied Master Baizhang to do work on the mountain. The master asked, “Did you bring fire?”
Lingyu said, “I brought it.”
The master asked, “Where is it?”
Lingyu then picked up a stick, blew on it twice, and handed it to Baizhang.
The master approved.

I studied the former before winding up in computer games.

Using your logic we should remove fires.

I just recieved Everglowing Ember and I have to say it seems relatively useless as curio unless you have practically infinite INT.

Incorrect, fires must be filled to capacity and therefor are not infinite ash generators, at some point one must add fuel to bring it back to maximum capacity.

I did say it was a minor issue.

Quality branches are actually a limited and highly sought after commodity in mid-late world. Bone ash is literally 20x more convenient to use (20 units of ash per bone burned in kiln), and easier to get a large supply of at decent quality than this stupid branch lighting machine would.

And ultimately it's not an infinite ash generator since you actually need branches to make the damn ash.
