Seriously though, it would be a nice option for other colors than green, horribly diseased puke green and yellow. If nothing else some board-only roofing could also be nice on later mansion alternatives. Boards and craptons of wax to water-seal them.

The other day I was thinking about clay shingles, I'm glad I found this thread! :D It seems I'm not alone :D

And barley thatching kinda looks good, if you're into fancy & cliché medieval villages.

had to build one to tear down a couple of log cabins i built before i could build something better, lol.
we're pretty srs about building.
