pfft. Mares with 5% penalty. Only if pregnant :D

How about instead of ropes for leaching - use the correct stuff - a bridle or harness (a bit unsure of English terms here)

IIRC a harness is used to lead or tether a horse and a bridle is used to ride it.

pretty sure harness is for having the horse pull a small cart, look up harness racing (they usually go a mile in about 2minutes). maybe give horses stats like agility and strength? so horses can be work animals and pull small carts/wagons/ploughs or bread for horseback riding.

horses also have different gates (foot placement when walking), trotting and pacing, before a gallop. if that helps any

horseback riding also has a lot to do with the rider, if the rider knows what he is doing then the horse will last longer. when a horse gallops it is airborne a little and if the rider knows how to ride he will sort of bounce/move with the horse, almost standing while riding, to reduce the weight strain.

can we have size be a factor? smaller requires less food but all quantities are less :D
then we can have minis and maybe donkeys haha

Make charisma affect riding!

I love this idea. Make the horses tamable but limit their movememt. Excellent.

Also maybe give the horse (or implement packmule) an inventory where you could put a container (or two) while not raiding the horse. This way you could to stuff like this -

Leash more horses in a row and there you have your nice caravan. Traders would love this.

It should certainly be possible to domesticate horses, yes, and they should certainly have unique breeding traits.

I think domesticated horses should have some of the following stats:

Stamina
Speed
Strength
Courage
Temperament

Stamina - determines how long it can run with speed being a factor, meaning a very fast horse would also require a lot of stamina to run for a long time, otherwise it would just be able to dash for a brief period before draining its energy.

Speed - was pretty much explained above.

Strength - determines how fast it can pull a cart, with speed being its hard cap, and stamina determines how long it can pull it until it gets tired and has to go at crawl or walk speed.

Courage - horses with low courage gets spooked easily by other animals such as bears and boars. Also entering combat spooks horses(personally I don't think you should be able to fight while riding a horse)

Temperament - how likely it will get pissed off and buck you off. Horses get pissed off easier as they become more hungry.

Raising these stats should be difficult, and people would have to focus on raising only 1 or 2 of the stats for each strain of horse. For example there could be one breed of horse bred for pulling carts effectively, and another for scouting/exploring, maybe one for pvp, etc.

If the Strength*Stamina make more sence?

Also, I want to see some light and heavy armor for the warhorses.
