You are partially correct, they really didn't. HOWEVER, they did have processes based on incorrect observations/assumptions that helped things heal.

It's funny how often good medicine came out of bad ideas.

That's bit OT, don't want to sound like ass, but out of historical curiosity

I've never heard that people in medieval ages treated wounds with gauzes first of all.

Now you suggest to boil used gauze? Isn't this something only 1700-1800's thing, times when people was blowing each other with cannons and muskets?

It would be nice if you provide some sources

Gauze do exist in Haven game (which is focusing on medieval age, like 600-900 AD), and let it be. But 2 non-senses on top of each other, is weird and too much, IMO.

And even if that ancient greek kylix hadn't existed, good gameplay mechanics > realism/historical accuracy every time.
