Didn't mean for this to be a controversial kind of idea. I just want some game mechanic that lets me trade livestock away without them retaining their breeding capabilities. Making it optional to do seems like a good idea because players still may wish to trade breedable animals (probably for a greater price). If jorb and loftar want to implement it as some kind of non-confrontational, magic thing that does the same thing, but castration/neutering is the term I used to get the basic idea across.

Convicted pedophiles should have the shaft of their penis stitched to their stomachs so that whenever they take a piss they have to urinate all over their chest and neck

Also something something castrated horses

Lol are you retarded, castration of animals in domestication has been around for thousands of years, for good reason. Oxen (used to pull carts, stronger than horses) are castrated bulls, because bulls are fucking wild. Geldings are castrated horses, because stallions are also fairly wild and hard to control, and set mares off. The alternative is just to slaughter almost all of them as they're born because otherwise they're useless, but it's wasteful which is why using them as work animals was preferred. If you want to bury your head in the sand then feel free to live in ignorance, just don't drag everyone else down with you please.

Also, if you don't get your dogs/cats desexed then you have to keep them locked up where no other animals can come in contact with them, which is clearly an unequivocally much better option.

and just because we do it to cats and dogs all the time doesnt make it right, or even make sense. also "for their own saftey"? wut?

the reason neutering and spading got so damn popular is because of moronic owners that couldnt keep their damn animals in check. i just cant stomach the idea. i play games to get away from the harshness of reality.

the actual reason we neuter our animals is indeed for their own safety. cats are barely domesticated and will wreck your house and attack other pets if you keep them inside and take away their chances of mating. if you let them go out, they will fight other cats for dominance and invariably lose to tougher feral cats, getting wounded and possibly infected in the process. if they do manage to reproduce, most of the offspring will end up being put to death in shelters because of overpopulation. they also have greatly increased chances of developing cancers at a later age. pretty much all domestic animals have a similar story.

i must wonder how you can even play this game. i assume you don't hunt, fish, catch insects, boil silk cocoons, or steal honey and wax from bees?

(BTW do you know stardew valley? it's a great game to get away from reality.:))

pretty sure almost any farm animal including cows, sheep, goats etc get castrated very often and male horses for sure do, not sure about the females getting spayed but that was and is in no way just held to dogs and cats because of bad owners.....just saying.... +1 to this but maybe just males, introduce rubber so we can make rubber bands and get the realism reallllly going, i guess string would work to make it...easier.. :|

edit: and you could introduce a new ingredient for creamy cock...... :?

@ synaris ... I understand how you feel, I felt the same with animals I've had but the fact that we keep animals as pets (or for work/food) does make it a necessity at times and has little to do with bad ownership. I never had my dog done because I felt it unfair but he was always with me, or not out of the house on his own, so he wasn't a risk to females in the area, he did however get cancer early and the vet more or less told me it was because I hadn't had him done and he hadn't been able to use it ... if you know what I mean ... and as Turtlesir says, he told me it is common amongst domesticated animals for this very reason. I wasn't aware of this beforehand.

I had my female cat done as a kitten, I felt terrible and still feel guilty about it, but I wasn't prepared to keep her shut indoors like some people do, she is a cat not an ornament! And neither did I want to put her through the same ordeal my dog went through. I can't let her have litters of kittens as no-one wants them and they just end up being put down, something else I wouldn't be able to do and neither can I manage a house full of cats.

So, it's not quite as cruel and barbaric as it sounds, the answer tbh is that we shouldn't ever have had animals as pets but it is far too late for that now and animals such as cats and dogs have been domesticated and are in almost every household at some point, they rely on us and just become a problem when strays, which then end up being rounded up and put down, so it is actually for their own benefit even though it doesn't sound like it on the surface.

However, it is entirely our fault in the first place, as most things are, for having domesticated them.
