Shubla, seriously, shut up. You go on like this about precisely everything that we do not fix at the drop of a hat. We cannot fix every damn problem you cry about, and that we do not is not a sign of moral turpitude. We have a ton of stuff to work on, and tanning is damn near at the end of the list. Fuck off.

I have said this before: I am not in love with time being the problem with steel, but feel free to present some alternative mechanic that makes it mildly challenging to make in some more interesting way, then.

Double the timer or increase to 16-20 hours but give incentive to do something like fuel with a carbon source at a certain time/temperature/level of fuel otherwise the steel reduces in quality. Wouldn't matter for producing wall grade steel but would for quality steel.

I think I've mentioned this idea before in an earlier discussion, but why not just let the progress decrease when the crucible isn't lit, as opposed to resetting it to 0 immediately? It would be much more lenient, with an inherent penalty (takes longer to make steel) for missing the timing window.

This does not change much except for shit quality steel being with ease.

I think this is a better solution, at least until a compelling mechanism can be with implementation.

How is that different than the suggestion you are praising which gives a longer amount of time for both low and high quality

I think you answer your own question. It is good for all qualities. Right now people complain because the mechanic to make it hard is only working on the hermits. Hermits are already at a disadvantage, so it is not needed to have mechanics that hurt only them. This mechanic should be as trivial to the hermit as it is for the village until a difficulty mechanism that affects both hermits and villages can be thought up, I think.

No, that was the point of my suggestion and what I believe jorb and loftar want. He already stated there needs to be some form of challenge to steel making otherwise it will become too easy so that's my suggestion, make low quality steel easy to make and make higher quality steel have some difficulty involved.

That is the crux of these issue. This difficulty is not difficult to a village. It is not hard to log in every 12 hour. It is also not interesting or satisfying. I think a better mechanism must exist. Your suggestion is fine for the mean time, but I think still punished the solo player that's not needed.

The only alternative to not having some form of a time gate involved is to have none meaning the production of steel would become easier to the point where a large village would be producing high quality steel on a regular basis which almost certainly lowers the value of steel that any hermit can produce since regardless they'll still be creating less and at a lower quality.
