this is a great idea :o
Personally i'd love to see the day where we have more furniture in the game, would be nice to have bookcases that actually looks like bookcases and not like.. cheeseracks :D Image

Upon realizing that cheese-racks are literally bookcases that hold superior objects, I deem this unnecessary.

Yes, being able to write books is awesome, and something i've wanted for forever, but before we do anything crazy you need to fix the current parchment writing system.

Also forget to say, books will be a good tool to make recipe books for variable food.

^^ Honestly I think the most important result of implementing books would be making the game less dependent on external manuals and lists (and maps with custom markings, assuming books would support those features).
