Sounds like a perfect time to attack and fight to me.

Or perhaps, the barbarians will be the cricket, having raided away the Summer... and taking what you have is so much easier than building up their own.

Hannibal... is at the gate.
jorb: I don't want *your* money. You are rude and boring. Go away.
Sevenless: We already know real life has some pretty shitty game mechanics, it's why we're here instead.
Avu: The end is near it has finally come to pass: I agree with Lunarius...
Shubla: There are also other reasons to play this game than to maximize your stat gain.

If we had seasons, fur cloaks and the like would have some purpose in life other than being an indicator of bad fashion sense.

Edit: This could also provide another use for salt, which could be used to preserve food.
Tedium is a feature.

Formerly known as DaMaGe. Been playing on and off since World 3 in 2010, but my old account no longer functions.

That's actually a good idea. And raiding in winter to destroy people's stored food could be an interesting activity for some.

Seasons don't need to be complicated, at least not at first. They can be simply a color filter or background sound indicating in which one you're in, along with standard changes to formulas, qualities, animal spawns, and types of forageables available. There could also be LP % or fate formula bonus to players who comply with the needs of the season, like wearing proper clothing in winter or not staying too much within walls in summer.

I don't think the engine would allow frozen rivers, but if it could, just not being able to use boats or dig river clay for a while already changes a lot about the way we play. Now imagine how interesting the game would be with a bunch of proper well-thought seasonal effects like these.
