"Let's make a caravan trip!"
same day, 45 mins later
"Oh well there's the border. That was fun".

One might spend more time preparing for the trip than actually travelling. That's what I think about this map.

I thought map size was nerfed heavily due to raiders complaining about not being able to find anyone to raid

I thought it was because people were not being social in the last world. Either way there definitely needs to a compromise. It's just way too small. If somebody wants to raid I think it's reasonable they should spend time choosing the place. Right now they can just walk outside in any direction for 5 minutes and have targets for the next 2 months of raiding... Whereas before if you were going to travel it would have to be worth it, a place with power relative to your own. People can just abuse everyone around them now, just because they have strength in numbers

The whole current map was explored during the first month. All valuable points was already claimed during the first week. There were no space for true exploration.
And w8 was much better in this point of view. You could CHOOSE your way - settle near "civilization" or spend days INR traveling into "forsaken lands". You knew, that you'll be on your own in this journey, but could find a q90 clay node somewhere on the world edge. Now you can't. Even q50 clay (water, soil etc) nodes mostly all are claimed. All big flat plains are covered by faction's villages (yeap, they may be forgotten/raided/without authority - but you barely decide to build YOUR OWN base on it's ruins).
And loc-res-nodes? Ice-pickles, salt-basins, mother-pearls - all of them was claimed AFAP. And it led us to "I've caped my char for 3 days and now Im bored". You know where this "bore" came from? When you have only 5 ice-pickles all over the map. Only 5 - and their location is well known at the start of a second week. You don't need to explore the world when you know the exact location of OP-stuff.
IIRC, the current map is 0.01 of past one. So let's imagine, we'll have a patch someday, that will extend our current map 100 times. So we will have 500 ice-pickles, spawned in undiscovered areas with chance of finding top-q (double as high q as known ones). Or we can find a spot with q120 soil/clay/water. Most of the players will leave their bases to explore new lands as pioneers. With all their hopes and disappointments. Won't it breathe a new spirit into the game? That's my dream.

And now came you, saying - let's make new world even smaller. And tomorrow, Loftar visit your topic, and PM Jorb "Hey, bro, the people say even this world is too big, lets make it x10 smaller next time".
So, FUCK your idea, man. fuck it so hard as it can be done.

I am a hermit that plays for 1 month and has an access to an unclaimed q58 clay. So that's not very valid.

Huge map will only make this game single player and ultra carebear. Of course every noob including me wants to have absolutely no neibourghs but thats not how this game works. Instead of making a huge map they should make tough places. Like, remember abomination of a game called Salem? The map generator had ridiculous moments there. There was an island in a sea surrounded by mountains (!!!). My journey onwards the safest place possible was quite memorable. Darkness was quite a good idea aswell, I think.

So why not make something like it here? Make hard-to-find islands with storms opposing you, make a clusterfuck called mountain chains, partly unpassable, with a secluded valleys behind them, make some obscure areas at the edge that will make the exploration hard. Not 1783197137 tiles of copypasta so that you can waste 5 days of your life travelling in a straight line checking every 10 tiles, for lucky q420 clay.

I didn't play w8 but w7 seemed quite big - and my town was absolutely secluded, it was fun at first, but turned out to be pretty boring once you develop, not even a single noobcake to help him out.

^Those are cool ideas. Kinda what I was thinking with hermit biomes and more mountains and etc.

Still though, the map needs to be bigger than it is. Even if it's not much.

You're coming from the premise that murder is socialization and you're ignoring how a large map can generate content. Do you remember the journey threads of Emerald and Maze? Even in w7, whose map was still rather large, there was jesus and others exploring the map and meeting people everywhere. In the village I was in in w8 there were regular alt train parties, where people would gather up and walk together from spawn area to the city 6 hours away.

Last world, pvp'ers complained about lack of "interaction" because autohearth was too fast and they couldn't aggro random strangers. Devs fixed it, but nothing changed.
This world the map was reduced to encourage "interaction". The world is still empty, nothing changed.
So maybe the premise is wrong. How about not giving reasons for people to hermit in the first place?

Or appeal more to hermits, and more play-styles in general. The world is so packed with bases yet nobody is playing. Many of those still playing think the map is too small regardless of interaction. Player interaction should be tied to population and things should be done to make the game more awesome so more people play. There's no need to force interaction in a sandbox game like this. It will happen on its own and should happen naturally.

So just make the map bigger, and keep improving the game. Nobody is saying it needs to be 2-3 times bigger, just that it is too small.

There are inevitable consequences to having low population and being an alpha game. Fix the game, not the symptoms.

This map is pretty small especially with the connected river systems allowing for faster boat travel.

I think this is more of a problem as the map size itself.
Even with the bigger landmasses (and probably also becaue of them) people settled next to a river. So while the landmasses were less densely populated, the riversides were more and it was thus easier to meet people because everyone and his grandma were using river X to get from dong lake to cock sea.
