if you had the compost bin work like a beehive and affect an area surrounding it, raising the surrounding soil q every few days, while at the same time having the soil q drop every time you harvest, it would balance out. Also give the bins a maximum capacity, say 100 kg, and it drops by, say 10 kg, every time it raises soil q.

this idea adds the possibility to potentially remove the hard cap of item quality - most of the end-items couldn't raise its quality because of soil, and water cap.
UPD: well, exactly this idea has no description, but this one does.
And grinding itself mean spending much time on very boring process for some achievement and fit perfectly for finding best q resource nodes, while such ideas provide you an alternative way for raising your vital materials quality.
English is neither my native lang, nor my best side...
