but I would still prefer global chat, especially a global help & trade channel.. Players could simply ignore or turn off the tabs if they didn't want to use them.

Chat groups could still be nice, but I also kind of feel that our focus should perhaps be the game mechanics. Chat groups are essentially nothing but UI work.
