What is the other, non-afk form of fishing called? Sport fishing? Anyways it really sucks, I would suggest going back to the moon phases playing a role in which fish are caught and when.

Regarding a more advanced fishing mini-game that requires some player input I certainly don't think it's a bad thing to have and it could add some nice variety and more fun to fishing but it does need to be simpler than what we have now.

Jordan provided the stardew valley fishing mini-game as an example but really you could look at most any game that includes some form of fishing mechanics and you'll see most of the mini-games are quite similar the catch and release portion. Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy XI, Dark Cloud, Breath of Fire, Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing.

My suggestion would be to have some minor skill test involved in catching larger/rare fish using your own stamina bar versus the fish's stamina bar. In the process of fighting with the catch your stamina would be draining so if you take too long to catch the fish that your stamina bar empties, it gets away and obviously you can't drink during that process either.

 ... yeah, I know ... I rather meant with regard to modernization, ppl can get carried away and start talking about modern fishing mechanics, I saw someone asking for electricity not long ago ... that kind of thing irks me slightly. :)

Not at all saying it isn't fun in a single-player game, but I do have to admit I don't quite understand why you keep suggesting this in the context of Haven. How do you imagine this not being bottable to 100% autonomous success rate?

Make the fishing pole a combat weapon so coles can run around with it.

I would like if the directions on what the luring poll describe meant you should tug a direction, not be a vague description.

Tons of little things that could be done yep

I think the main thing would be to expand on how you fish, and the fish being caught. Fishing can be a viable trade industry if the "big catches" are on par with some of the higher-end cheeses in terms of FEPs.

I'd also love it if the fish being caught would have a weight attached to it.

Another fun thing that I've considered is if you catch a fish and then drop it back into the water you are "releasing it" so when it is caught again by another player, its size will have increased significantly (since all objects are saved when dropped now). Fish size might determine things like extra stat boosts on the cuts, the amount of food that is crafted in the end recipe (ex. 2 pieces instead of 1), the amount of pieces you get when you butcher the fish, and the size of your E-peen.
