Deciding to play the game should be enough.

Your argument is bullshit and you know it.

And then there's also the fact that people will simply keep using bots anyway, if things like these aren't implemented into the official client.
Nobody is going to settle for 4k clicks per chore, I don't think.

It's not that people don't want to play your game, rather it is that they would love to spend their time doing other things rather than clicking harvest to feed their animals, for example.
There's brick art to pave, projects to build, people to kill / befriend, but nope, you have to spend 4 hours staring blankly at a screen, just to keep a healthy production going and stay competitive. Daily. Without fail.

Personally, the only bot I use (and some friends I know too), is for harvesting huge fields and filling troughs. Hardly an exciting chore to carry out, but a necessary one anyways.

How is this fair, or intended?

what bothers me is some of the the things JC states could be a step in combating botting. in the stance of, if certain players can do it, make it so that everyone can do it.

Either ban/stop the certain players or make it so everyone can do it. if you have a problem with this way of thinking J&L please tell me why?

Because hitting "chop tree" and waiting for 10 seconds for stamina to run out and repeating the process three time more is so much fun?
Same for the rest of actions which player ends up repeating on a daily basis. You spend most of the time just looking at the display doing literally nothing.
There is a reason why all those actions are automated in every village with a member who can code, which by itself does more harm than good.
Obviously actions should take time otherwise what's the point, but expecting someone to dully eyeball the screen and click every two seconds during the span of multiple month is a bit... well... odd approach.

?

Indeed: Ideally the game should play itself.

I agree that there is a lot of nonsense that could be automated. Point perhaps being that it's not as if it's just a question of decision points. A meaningful decision to a small fish is not meaningful to a big one.
