I think inheritance timer should also be lowered. So you could inherit the first time without waiting 8 hours.

Cheap starvation labour alts are already a thing, I use them and people that I play with use them. We just build like 10 beacons and spawn 10 alts so we always have some ready, even if some of them would die.
Its not like inheritance timer thing helps, at all.
Issue is in game mechanics. Its not preventable, at least in pleasurable way. By adding stupid timers.

Add some food thats realtively easy to make, gives a lot of energy and doesnt ruin your hunger/satiety.
Or then face the reality and people using alts to make the hard work.

While at it, please fix the lag. I can write whole forum posts while waiting for a click to register, then it's ok for 15-30 seconds and then it's back to wait a minute... :(

It may be fixed now. It turned out there were a few badly set sysctls that limited the server's socket buffer size.

Other than it being annoying for people to make energy, etc alts, am I missing some positive aspect of the inheritance timer? If you've only got one character then it would just force you stop playing for however long. If you're a hermit / no one to do it for you, it basically guarantees you can't log in and collect the gubs from your character before everything is lost. If anything it's encouraging keeping alts isn't it?

Most often deaths happen within few hours after charcater creation. Due to player being new. (s)He will be even more confused of those dumb timers.
Or server being bunch of filthy buggy crap that will make animals kill your character in instant.

"seldom a problem" wow seriously? that is a fucking dick thing to say when people can't fucking play because they logged in and got decked by a fucking bear, came back, put in another 2 hours of playing and building and eating curios to get back, and then dies again to another fucking bear that agroed me from like 70 tiles away.I'm going to bed because I can't fucking play because I'm being punished like I'm a fucking criminal for dying, in a game I'm fucking paying sub time for. can I get those 5 hours of sub time back? seriously. this is utter bullshit.
