my first 2 steel in production just reset at 82% because of this, why does it exist still

Whoa, somebody actually used search.
Also it was mentioned that you can use wheelbarrow to dump the branches, can't guarantee it works but worth checking.

It works, using wheelbarrows is also faster.

You can test it yourself quickly by operating an empty wheelbarrow on a running crucible. Have you tried it or are you making assumptions about what it will do? I've been using a wheelbarrow to refill steel crucibles for at least a batch a week and I've never seen bars come out onto the wheelbarrow.
