Why don't you build one yourself?

OP's point is literally having an independent market.

And thats the point

This game you can create an open, independent market, but you need diplomacy and some muscle to keep it safe.

Creating a trade hub would just be a bad idea, salem's town was a terrible addition to the game, and we already got visitor debuffs so you can create an open market outside of your town's own walls to build a marketplace anyway

Yes lets switch to a coinage system instead of trade goods. Good goy.
We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like.

The game needs nothing of the sort.

I don't feel Boston in Salem was that bad but it's much better if it's function is fulfilled by something that players created and maintain.

Not at all keen on OP, but this...

ven wrote:Still, I can't see how a solid economy with different currencies and stuff could develop under the current system. Almost everyone is self-sufficient, there's no product decay, demand or uniqueness, and trade isn't even a necessity in general. So more incentives to trading would be nice, regardless of the form in which they're implemented.

... Is very much true. Not a fan of decay, but more fun and good incentives to break the general autarky that sets in quickly would be a huge boon for the game. I don't have any silver bullets, however.

You have been handed several boxes full of them (to keep in the picture) over the years, in various suggestion about how item decay could be implemented to make sense.
So why not make a 'request for comments' topic where you showcase the versions that you think might work (at least in part) and give us something to discuss to kingdom come, with a deadline where you just implement the most reasonable version so we all can see how it plays out?

Official statement is that we have ethernal alpha so why not let's alpha on that issue, after trawling the brains of your users for a good mechanic?

Decay does nothing principally to break autarky, though. It simply increases the drain on resources and has a huge potential to simply make the game a lot more tedious.
