I always liked the idea of adding more crafter skills and having bonus's attached to them that benefit you the higher you raise them in such a way that it helps reduce the tedious shit you have to do. For example lets take farming, sure it caps your max quality plants, but why not give it a chance to increase the yield of the crop when planting.

So 100 farming gives a chance at getting an extra item and so forth to a case where a farmer has 1000 farming can plant a flax seed and have a chance at getting 1+(1-10) extra fibres. and same for other crops then bam we go from having to have massive farming centers to having smaller more efficient areas and less time spent planting and harvesting to give us more time to do other projects. Do this for other areas where the game severely lacks and we now have a use for endless stat grind, to free up peoples time.

Another part is making stats help with the amount of stuff you can carry at one time, i dont know about many people, but the one thing i hate in any game is having my inventory limited to where i have to stop every few minutes to return to base to drop everything off and we really need larger character inventories, perhaps add a weight system or a system to add slots to a character (not the clothes but the actual character). i spend so much time in game actually moving items from 1 area to another because i can only carry 60-70 odd things and if i could grind out strength on my crafter to get the benefit i would happily do it as there is a purpose to strength on a crafter character then.

I agree that more generic uses for most stats could quite generally be fun.
