That's a good point.
I don't see it being much different from realm bonuses, just this would be more geographic. Crops could still be grown pretty much anywhere, just some would be slower or faster than others. I think it would help trade as biome growth rates would help encourage specialization.
I think factions would try to pick a location that is in the center of a variety of different biomes. If more villages/bases would pop up as a result to get the best, I say why not? Let factions and players work for the highest numbers if they really want it that badly.
