No, I'm aware there is a difference ... :) ... I was talking about alts.

Now this I can agree with.

You, as stated, play the game with several alts. I don't, but I have in past worlds. Maybe you try with sticking to only one character for a change, it gives a completely different feel to the game when you don't focus on pure efficiency and compartmentalising risks away through using throwaway characters.

For me it lead to be way more fun, as it removed the feeling of the game being a second (unpaid) job that crept in over the years back.
Surely I'm not that efficient and get less stuff done than with juggling a fleet of client instances in parallel... but it's fun and less of a chore.

I stay at my view: Both alts and botting are bad.

I came back to clarify but Granger has replied in the meantime with more or less what I was going to say .... I don't think there is anything wrong with an alt per se, I used to use one or two in legacy because you had to in order be efficient - I use them here to explore or for one to hermit and one to be in a village, the problems arise when players create a hoard of throwaway alts to get around or abuse game mechanics.

-1 It's already too easy for large villages to pump out alts like rabbits make babies. Wouldn't do anything but make the alts stronger off the card.

Well the general thought(especially in this thread) is that alts are negative while botting is just plain bad. I agree. my main view has always been to do away with alts. But like Amanda said previously, if you were gonna be a hermit in legacy, you needed at least 2 chars. Now game mechanics have changed. And I don't think you really need any alts(pls correct me if I am wrong) but then again with the current game mechanics, its not hard at all to have 3 characters. I for instance have 2 characters, still based on legacy. I have a nature and a industry guy. and just recently(in W9) I descided to have a miner guy too just in case I cannot get away from a troll in the 1 in a million chance I spawn one.

but is that inherently bad for H&H? I don't think having alts(not talking about "throwaway alts") are bad but not really good for the game so to speak and are not really intended in W10.

In my humble opinion, they should increase the exp cost on most/all curios to help kill off the concept of "throwaway alts"

Though to be fair ... with the introduction of credos and the way they have been implemented maybe the devs are now leaning towards us having more chars ... idk, anyway if you search for topics on alts you will find plenty of negative reactions to them for a variety of valid reasons, none of which involve anyone 'wanting the game all to themselves' ... ... most of us here care deeply for the game, inc Granger, want it to grow and only want what is best for it. - Though ofc, opinions on that may differ. :)

Even alts that aren't used for botting can cause trouble. For instance, using combat alts makes griefing a lot less dangerous for the griefers since they run no chance of losing their main character in battle.

In my opinion, the first character you create should be free and every alt you make should cost some real money.

That's literally the dumbest idea ever, alters don't even make over 1 character per account anyway usually

Making the game pay-to-play and making it 1 char per account could kinda help with the issue but then again it just makes the game "pay to win"

I don't run two clients guys. I have multiple alts on one paid account. With the recent changes to the death mechanics, I do agree that it's not necessary. However, it is nice to have a mining alt especially when you get your ass raped by cave ins. The wounds take a long time to heal. Maybe I'm using the word alt wrong, who knows but I've never ran 2 different clients at the same time in the new Haven. In legacy I did, but I don't currently because I enjoy playing at more than 5fps.

I just made an alt to try and die. It took me 15 minutes to die, by letting ants KO me three times, followed by a boar attack. It is most definitely not necessary to even have alts as it appears to be 10x harder to even commit suicide as you have to wait a while for your character to stand, get knocked out again, then rinse/repeat until HHP is 0.
