And what once you destroy your hearthfire? It doesn't seem to accomplish that much that idea to me.

Apart from deciding whether it's a good idea or not (I'm honestly unsure), the greatest problem with that solution is what happens with a character who has no hearth fire, or one whose hearth fire is destroyed while he is logged out. The most elegant solution to that problem seems to be "cannot log out if you have no hearth fire, and is forced back into the game if hearth fire is destroyed", and that's not all too elegant.
