Perhaps, but significant changes to map generation are hard to push without a reset.

There have been discussions about how the world could revolve (faked by generating new space at one end while gnawing away at the other), this could be used to renew it in an incremental fashion.

Regarding on-disk data I'm confident that these could be versioned so old structures would update on the fly (on demand with use), new terrain features like river currents (as example for what would be cool but not yet existing) would only exist in the freshly generated areas though, but that could give additional incentive to move there.

what about instead of world resets a new map becomes avaliable and in order to get to the new map you have to travel to one of the world borders where you are then transferred to the new world kinda a one way trip kinda thing

that way you still have the old world new players can develop and explore and older players can move onto the next ?

Jorb, map reset is Kool. But I know in the past you pull the characters and keep there data saved. Couldn't you just do that from now on?

IMHO world resets (as we know them) should be dealt with by removing the reasons for them.

I haven't seen anyone deterring from making big-scale projects just because of the possibility of the world reset in the far future. Yeah, people might be hesitant invest once the world is dead (server activity less than 350 people online) and the reset is more likely to happen + less fun.

The biggest problem with the people returning back is that the progression of skills remains the same, while there are people playing on titans and having top q. stuff. This should be resolved to make people more likely to return back. I suggest changing the game mechanics:
make the server calculate the top stats and the numbers of characters that have them. Afterwards, increase the % of the learning and food effectiveness for the new characters (after completing certain quests/credos, so we won't have massive char farms). The closer you get to the top stats, lower your LA/stats gains.

No to worlds with a known predefined ending. I don't like living under a death sentence.

No to parallel servers. I want everyone in the same world. Dealing with some friends in one 'shard' and other in another is awful.

The way they're doing it now is just fine! When you're playing the world feels like it'll last indefinitely. And when it suddenly ends, the feeling of loss for all you've accomplished is overridden by the excitement of a new world.

I wonder how much fun it is to start playing and everyone you meet have q 500+ equips and 20.000-50.000 in all their stats.
This is a game with a highly aggressive player base, people kill you for fun, for your items, because they do not like or trust you, they don't want to share resources.
You start in a world, where anyone can be equal to a god in strength compared to you and you are at their mercy.
