People would still have alts.
You would have to make all but combat stats not reduce after death if you want to reduce alts.
Just splitting study windows won't make people play on one character.

Meh, not sure this changes much.

This changes nothing. Those who uses 2 chars or more would still do that.

Also the benefit of using multiple characters is simply having extra pair(s) of hands. You can reasonably have your main crafter farm/craft while also chopping down trees with more expendable alt for example.
