Honestly, IMHO food should decay over time when not being preserved in some way. It dosn't make sense that I can put a bunch of steaks into a cupboard and pull them out in identical condition some months later.

I ate a 3 month old strip steak yesterday and it still had full feps so I think fep decay is inaccurate! (It was in a fridge tho aka add iceboxes)

Just "in the fridge" at around 34-40 F/ 2-4 C? or was it kept frozen for this period? A steak properly packaged and frozen can be kept for a few years and not lose much quality of flavor or texture. (Six months to a year in a deep freeze is recommended, though.)

https://www.history.com/news/hungry-history/the-surprisingly-sufficient-viking-diet

vikings mostly boiled meats and vegetables. they often would keep a pot of broth going and constantly add and remove stuff from the pot. this thick broth was called skause. cool name and i think it would fit the theme of the game better than "perpetual stew"
