You don't want to use any string for sutures. Body will reject and cause a nasty infection. It's why they were cat gut until about 40 years ago. Modern sutures are artificial and another use of plastics.

Though bandages and other external first aid... great use for silk that could be of better application than just any other cloth. (In this case silk > cotton/linen > wool)
