I think this is approached completely from the wrong direction: instead of buffing stuff that was made irrelevant by adding overpowered stuff (in this case being able to plant the most interesting forageables, including troll stuff) the problematic added stuff should be nerf'd instead to make what was once good great again.

So instead of throwing your idea of nerfing everything in this thread (which would require a world reset) go make a post with your idea? My approach is to add something to the game that raises quality of foragables items, not to nerf something.

Yes, which would add another to the many things that lead to numbers raising endlessly (which imho is the core problem this game is suffering from), so it would only follow this spiral a little further.

Travel 1 hour to some stump in the ground or some walled area built around quest giver that you can't get into, that has you do more non-sense & more non-sense etc... quests suck

+1 This is so much the right way of approaching the problem... In my opinion the spiral needs breaking.
jorb: I don't want *your* money. You are rude and boring. Go away.
Sevenless: We already know real life has some pretty shitty game mechanics, it's why we're here instead.
Avu: The end is near it has finally come to pass: I agree with Lunarius...
Shubla: There are also other reasons to play this game than to maximize your stat gain.

Anvil+Hammer would only softcap, not give extra quality. Rebalance metal tools to be useful at lower quality (separate butcher power from quality so that q100 cleaver will count as 300 when butchering for example.)
