Remember when beer used to give a str buff and wine blew away TW? I member.

I think they addressed the problem somewhat with the 'preferred container" thing - perhaps you could only have one 'mug' and it would require stopping your character to fill it (or a reduction to crawl speed, or something). If drank from a non-preferred container it would recover as much stamina as water of the same quality. Like drinking a warm beer!

It actually had 4-5 stages*: +Int, +str/-int, more of the same, passed out drunk. And it was any alcohol. And tea removed travel weariness... booze not so much.

Ah, now I remember. Either way I think it would be trivial to fix with the preferred container/filling animation/combat status workaround while still adding the bonuses for drinking tea or beer while working.
