I did and played a heck out of a contra while doing that. It's time consuming, but who said, You should do it all by yourself, like a really big area? If You go really big, don't complain and swallow it up, after all, it is You who decide HOW BIG YOU GO.
I mean, I did 3 times level a uneven area in both ways down or up and the only pain I had was transporting leftover soil between two sites if there was any =)
