No thank you. Hafen does not need voice chat.

I'm also not about to alt tab with some half kitted warrior in front of me to try and organise a conversation. It's also problematic attempting to negotiate by typing whilst fleeing or chasing someone accross the map.

I can agree on the resource intensiveness of development and implementation though. It's not needed but would make a fantastic QoL addition in the future imo. All of the negative points can be overcome.

Get better at typing. And honestly, if someone is chasing you, they're probably not willing to negotiate as long as you have a pulse. Screeching mics and "NO MOM, NOT NOW, I'M TRYING TO PVP" are not going to add a single iota of immersion.

Also, if tabbing is such an issue, get a second monitor. Shitlord.

An idea to consider: Tedium, a Feature.

Haven is a middle way point between actually god himself and rust.
do NOT implement anything that will move us towards rust and AWAY from god.

It's on the list.

I guess it's more frightening in a way, like a silent movie. The serial killer chases you silently and you can't even scream.

I've always been in favour of voip and have commented on it many times. It should have a mute option for those who don't want it and to block out those who would abuse it, but on the whole I think it would be ideal for haven.

Anyway, last time this came up one of the devs commented and said they could see it would be beneficial for some players and a nice idea but they had no plans to implement it any time soon ... if at all I guess, but personally I think it's a shame, I much prefer to chat than to stop what I am doing and type and I do also believe it would help in creating a better community ... :)

This would be only worth the development time if it was open for all at all times.

I dont think that the implementation would be a problem. But possible abuse by players. Play back some annoying sound in your enemies wall or such.

It could detract from the kind of retro or classic artstyle of the game though.

Yeah because a mute function would be impossible to implement

Have to agree. Not sure why such a feature should be limited to subscribers only if the developers are going to go through the efforts of including it. It'd just mean people get kicked out of raids and such because they weren't on comms. It then becomes P2W for reasons other than game mechanics.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

No it wouldn't, people would continue to voice via discord and just mute their teammates ingame. The only realistic use for this feature would be communicating with people you're not in discord with, such as random encounters or shittalking the enemy during raids, neither of which are reason to get kicked out of anything by your team. Also, people already aren't "kicked out of raids" for for not being able to speak in discord. Why would anyone do that?

The problem I have with this is that the majority of social interaction in the game happens in some focal points like the community fair, instead of randomly out in the wilderness. This means that usually either you're not going to have a use for the feature at all, or there's going to be too many people able to speak at once which again makes the feature not able to be realistically used.
