So basically what you're saying is:
"Lots of people... Lots of people would use this."
jorb: I don't want *your* money. You are rude and boring. Go away.
Sevenless: We already know real life has some pretty shitty game mechanics, it's why we're here instead.
Avu: The end is near it has finally come to pass: I agree with Lunarius...
Shubla: There are also other reasons to play this game than to maximize your stat gain.

There was even a newspaper at one point called the Voice of the North:

It was limited to 1 page per issue since it was written on parchment, though..

Ya know, for all that most of this shit happens on the forums, I for one would not turn down having a newspaper show up in my mailbox now and then, I'd even leave some kind of something for the guy delivering it!

That's not even a downside, really. People already use recipes to teach alts crafting materials, they just leave the recipes in chests instead of having them in neat little tomes. It's not useful just for alts, either. Having to re-learn all the crafting materials when you die is a huge pain in the butt.

+1 Love it! Wrote a LARPy little story the other night when I first realized you could actually write more than 100 characters on a parchment.
By the way, your Grand Tome shows 12000 characters? Not words? That's a lot less than 9k words.
Just my .O2... Taste, drink.., like/hate...

Post the story!

And keep in mind that you can share stories and messages with total strangers by dropping the parchment in the lake, I love doing that :D

Agree. There is a guy complaining in realm public chat about dieing by drowning accidentally and how much trouble it is for him to relearn all the recipes.
And I have been through this myself in the early days... or after getting killed in pvp
