Lightning strikes are far more common in urban areas, more to the point, suburban... golf courses seem to be a frequent story (fun fact, Florida is the highest incidence of human lightning strikes in the US, if not the world... too many stubborn golfers, maybe?) There are several reasons for this.
Yeah, a direct strike is going to likely kill the person, though there are odd stories here and there where people have lived. For those that aren't killed immediately, prompt medical attention is the biggest deciding factor just like with any other form of stroke, cardiac arrest, etc. If burns are the worst result of a lightning strike, just getting attention so they don't get infected is key (and in the modern world with high levels of sanitation like indoor plumbing and clean food, infections are much less likely than they were 100 years ago).
