Forgive me for not knowing all of mechanics but here what is an offer, maybe I can’t match all your accuracy mechanics expectations but it’s just a vision and u can adjust it yourself. here is a deal- king and only king can build a palace, castle and big strong walls around his palace and castle territory. other villages in the kingdom can also build a castle and walls (not palace) but only if king granted them title of duke or count (maybe king grant a duke title and then duke grants a count titles to others), if u r duke or count u build a castle a wall. all other villagers in domain of duke or count once their base has been under attack can teleport to the castle they belong to. for protection. criminal can stay on castle territory as well, cos its much safer, but headhunters can see them. so, if you covering criminal on your territory and he committed crime against other kingdom that could cause a war. you see? criminal can hide on neutral territory but wall is no so strong and if you don’t claim being part of other big kingdom you can’t expect protection from big brother so you are on your own. so, in this case criminals will try to attack only innocent independent villages, fearing no revenge. This will motivate players for unions and building kingdoms.
also, maybe if enemy destroyed your village where your home campfire was, it will automatically transfer to castle your village belongs to, so you won’t end up in another side of the world. but if castle is destroyed then yes, u will appear somewhere else.
so, we can think over other function of castle but basic is that it’s like an army base, very strong and difficult to destroy. if all solders and villagers teleport there and enemy destroyed all surroundings and started to destroying the castle then all solders and villager have to somehow protecting it, not letting destroying the wall by rebuilding it. let enemy endlessly use catapults. so that one catapult isn’t enough, they have to use few from many sides. once walls are broken then all defenders can hide in castle and archers from roof can shoot in attackers while attacker can use other mechanisms for protection.
palace is must have attribute of the king, that’s one of the reasons why I suggest stock markets, banks and so on, palace will give ability to build and control all big institutions of kingdom like taxes, stock market, banks or something.
dukes and counts behind their wall will have also markets but smaller then capital. if in capital you can have endless number of stalls then in duchy you can have only 20 but in county only 10, something like that.
also, stock market is a good idea if idea of warehouse will be implemented. so, duchy county and capital claims have rights to build a warehouse. they are underground like mines, but they have like a shelf similar to cart, where you know, you can put 6 wheelbarrows with full stockpile, so those shelve will have maybe 20-40 stockpile spaces each and you could fill them up directly from wheelbarrow. there will be like heaps of them in underground warehouses, with quality depending on how rich this village is. so, this will give good motivation for conquering duchies, counties and kingdoms, the loot!!! GOODS!!! ITEMS. TREASURES!! if we let kingdom collect more goods and resources and will give more space to keep it and save it then it will attract more enemies, more conflict. Let kingdoms get more and more rich and then it will attract more barbarian tribes to destroy and loot them.
also if you keep your resources in warehouse you are issued a document that you have res of 1000 quality in amount of 1000 peices, so you can give it to anyone as for of payola and anyone who has your paper can get 1000 res from any store. there gotta be situation with quality fixed somehow. so maybe there will be grades in those shelves. like you can only put quality between 900-1000 to those shelves and if someone gave you this document then storeman gives you qality of 900 and higher up to 1000. range of quality can be set up manualy.
also, if banks will be implemented then enemy can not only robe village for resources but also for their kingdom currency and then use this currency to buy all goods in capital of that kingdom. that why many would prefer to keep money in capital bank but then it put more risk on capital. anyway, the more diverse kingdom system the more interesting it will be and more conflict cause.
