New world solution: Path of Exile

It's an interesting idea for the most part, with the potential for some exciting fun. But the player base is way too small as it is.
I love the idea of a fresh new map, a new world, and exploring, with the potential of finding some resource better than the current world has or what have you. Another reason is that the player base always rebounds bringing back old players and new. But imo the active player base needs to maintain at least several thousands for this to work. About 50 times what it currently is...Maybe 100.

When you talk about dividing the playerbase you assume that its gonna be 50:50 or 40:60 something division. But judging on Path of Exile figures it actually is somehing like 5-10% on perma server and 90-95% on leagues(temporary servers). The main point is that permanent server is a place for endless grind, megaprojects, top gear and so on, while temporary servers always attracts people because of fresh economics and new challenges (which appears to be fun for most h&h players). So for example if we now have 200 active players on one server it will not become 100 on perma and 100 on tempo servers, it is going to be more like 40 on perma and gradual decrease from 800(like in a start of a new world) to 150 something on tempo server.

Perma server shines in a period when tempo server is already down and the new mechanics for another tempo rotation are being developed. More people are going to come to perma as new items from tempo are flowing in with cheaper prices. There is also a factor of racing for recources and new competition which cannot really be present with permanent server. So the argument for deeVayDeeng smoll pleyerbeis is stupid.

youll just divide pvp players from pve players which will dumb down the game a lot.

Not quite. In case you would be right (which is debateable, but let's accept that for a moment) the only thing that would happens is that PvP players would have less 'mobs' to slaughter and a higher chance of a humanoid 'mob' being someone that actually fights back (or even wins).

I can agree that this isn't sitting well with ones that draw 'fun' from inflicting misery onto others, but as these are (at least in the general population) a minority: fuck them.

then learn how to pvp and fight back until then dont complain you get slaughtered for being a weakling.
if your goal is to explore and be a farmer dont expect to be able to fight against a mob of fighters.

Please, both of you, focus on the thread point.

I think "reset" times are when the biggest publicity of H&H is made. I bet next world reset, whenever it is, will bring a lot of H&H players to Twitch. This will decade fast, the same that happens with game population, so a frequent reset mechanic will increase playerbase.

Also, as some of you have mentioned, playerbase won't split 1:1. One of the servers will condensate most of the game population, and there's no doubt resets will increase game population, so in the end there will be one of this two servers with way more players than now.

Finally, a reset system that introduces multiple updates at once, will make the exploration and discovery point bigger, (at least will feel bigger)

I don't think the reset system should be too often. Certainly no less than every 6 months imo. More like 8; maybe, but that's just a WAG.
Sounding better to me... At least on paper ;)
Although, I still think the game is not quite ready for this... But what do I know... +1

PoE is probably the best f2p online game out there right now and we could learn a lot from them.
But you also must consider most people play it as a single player game unless it comes to trading gear.

I believe Haven would benefit far more from:
Combating bloating of stats/skills.
Adding more interesting mechanics to improve territory control.
Reason to spend your fighter character as a resource in the global battle for supremacy in stead of endless gorging of food.

I support one permanent world that will have an endless battle for dominance.
Its just a matter of making that battle fun and meaningful.

Using PoE league system seems like a cop out and accepting that Haven will never be that much better than it is right now.
