With a bow you can take down a RL bear without much problems (plenty of videos on youtube in case you don't want to believe me), but it's definitively a bad idea to try to wrestle one. Thus haven has got it completely opposite to reality, when it comes to bears.

Bears will always eventually be weaker than humans as long as stats aren’t capped or given a diminishig effect wrt combat.
Maybe unless they have some crazy OP attack that disregards your stats

and we cant do it right on start so why not just give it to us later on, for the sake of comfort and character build up

blinx wrote:maybe not too much, but I certainly don't want TOO LITTLE realism. If you can charge across the screen at a bow-wielding person who is firing arrow after arrow at you and not take some serious damage as a result, I would take some serious issue with that. No matter how strong you are, an arrow in the chest is still an arrow in the fucking chest.

then again haven isnt a very good replica of those times and i wish for realism where people have to form turtle formations but not in haven. it must be balanced that sure, archer can dome significant damage to a warrior but not be a small gattling gun before a warrior can reach one

imo animals should be hunted with bows and get their stats ragged by melee combat.

make archery pve centric and ass in pvp. let the fighters fight, let the hunters hunt.

Any reason behind that other than "I want it this way"?

Regarding hunting: Because a normal person would expect hunting to be done using traps and bows, not to melee the animals (sans stuff like mammoths, which I would suspect to be attacked using something like spears)?

^ for muh realism

mechanically speaking, there's no real use for archery right now. you don't need to use bows at all. 1v1'ing woodland creatures fist to hoof has been the norm for ages (encouraged even with the animal/arrow quality debuff)

I feel hunting is somewhat boring as is - or at least that it has room to grow. traps, tracking, stealth, etc. could all potentially factor into hunting to make it more than 'afk the boar spawn for LP'

furthermore, if the early game meta holds up we'll see an army of 25 alts punching the shit out of a q290 moose so the faction's main survival character can craft a q 290 bonesaw/leather armor right out the gate and get a huge heads up. if melee combat lowered quality, the alt maul meta goes out the window.
