Valid point, but I also think Knarrs are a bit much to ask of everyone.

Everyone is going to use the cheaper boats to transport stuff anyway.
By lifting boats or containers with things.

Not everyone wants to drop the time into building a knarr. They are investments, and worth it when made well, but not everyone wants a means to haul all those people and goods.

Then do not go into ocean, simple solution.

OR make it so if a knarr bumps into one of these shitty boats it takes damage and sinks. Oceans belong to proper vessels.

About knarr relevance with introduction of another boat. It's also a matter of speed, cargo and security. Faster, more cargo and unpickable lock still might give the knarr enough edge to be really worth it. If smaller vessel is slower and harder to secure it could be a fine compromise I suppose.

for me it's a bit strange (and hard) that i now need to build a boat for 10 people (as wiki says), just to delive myself alone to my friend on another island

idk, maybe i should pray to forest gods so they can help me hearth to another summon beacon

nice! I think it would be a good idea to make it significantly faster but make it able to carry significantly less cargo/people than a knarr.

I also think it would be nice to allow us to move livestock on both the knarr and the new boat

And yet the Polynesian people crossed the Pacific in not much more than a dugout canoe....

Also, ask all those dead Vikings how well their longships held up in severe North Sea storms. I'm sure a few thousand dead sailors would tell you how "seaworthy" their ships were if they could.

This.
An easier to craft ocean boat will diminish how cool the ocean is right now.

early world is small because of hype, but if you're not into high faction pvp you can endure a few months and the world will get better like wine

Are you saying that the habitable space isn't smaller than previous worlds? Because you can clearly see how much the ocean dominates the map from the odditown map. That's not even factoring in the record high number of concurrent players.
