Why?
If you dont want to mine from natural caves, then dont mine from them.

If you slow down the earlygame too much people will stop playing because it take month of playing to get basic items. (Metal, crops)

I don't think anyone is talking about that slow.

I can only imaging how much it sucks having to prospect on levels 3, 4 ,5 when you have to clear out the levels above to get any useful readings below

I could see this be a thing if iron was removed from level one.

This way you'll have to mine more to find copper and tin to make bronze for hard metals, and steel requires going deeper.

But its kind of late now, and I doubt we'll see a world reset to make a change like this.

Could remove it from level one and add it into rivers and streams. which needs to be processed with water to get the black sand. Seeing as that was the original source for iron in the start of the iron ages

I don't like the idea of messing with an established and fairly functional balance system because factions blow through content too quickly. They always will unless we put a literal time gate on it. The larger the faction, the more swamps they can spread out over, the faster they can gather candleberries.

Slowing down factions a day or two would slow down most hermits a week or two. The status quo would be maintained tbh.

This. It's just a will to be precise and demanding of yourself and those around you. Those who are not as strong willed quickly fall behind.

I don't agree, it allows you to build houses bigger than a log cabin.

My neighbours are desperate for tin. Ore seems pretty regional, and they have none anywhere near. That said, if you've got too much tin stop mining it and look for something else...
