Turnips are a waste of field space at the moment IMO. They could be used in some niche foods, but without the additional leaf harvest per tile beetroots win out every time

Explanation on why this post aged badly: it was discovered you can quickly cycle the turnips by harvesting and replanting when they're at their seed stage, allowing you to raise their quality faster than any other crop in the game.

Even if they don't have (good for hc player) specific uses, they can be used as generic crop to produce hq fodder, mulch and wax. Mulch is the biggest thing as having super hq turnips will directly translate to having more hq trees which translate to more hq almost everything.
