Fat as a substance sounds great. +1
Total misplay.

You can not stockpile butchered fish, just whole fish. Whole raw meat stockpile is called corpse of animal.

Dead chickens still can't be stockpiled :(

(Of course I understand it should be that way from a design perspective. As a player it's frustrating that I never have enough space to leave dead chickens though.)

raw fat should just be put in a cauldron and rendered into lard which when heated can be stored in a barrel

i dont think it should be storable in a cistern tho you would never be able to get it back out once it cools so in a barrel only

Lard and tallow (The game's rendered fat.) are very similar, and are essentially the same in the game's uses. (Cooking and candles and such.)
Total misplay.

And if we get fat for frying, why not vegetable oil too? Finally use for olives and turnips. Fried foods because of their inherent deliciousness could be a category on their own and unaffected by the type of ingredients that are fried (fried chicken unaffected by poultry satiation). Fat/oil could be a variable ingredient in fried recipes.

Bonus effect of making animal fat a "fluid" that can be also held in inventory in stacks up to 0.5kg like flour, cavedust, and caveslime would be that every animal could give small amount of it.
