I would love these. I hate it that whenever I want to get a horse to ride, all other 50 horses escape in that mili second.
Closing the gate is not always an option, since animals tend to block each other off in front of the entrance.

all you problems are because you whant 50 horses to live on 5x5 square

give them some space and no problems

you cant carry a barrel while sitting either

I don't see the benefit of the current mechanics over what I am suggesting.

I used to put a chair along my cattle fence to go in and out without opening a gate. I havent tested if this works anymore, though. (get in chair from one side, get out of chair into cattle)

Just posting here to point out that even though the current system doesn't make the game unplayable and there are some solutions which involves creativity, those solutions look ugly. While the proposal doesn't seem to be overly complex to introduce, doesn't seem to be breaking any of the existing features, brings some additional QoL and some variety to dedicated herders about how to build your pens.

In other words - why fucking not? :)
